Résumé

In this paper, I analyze how punitivist subjectivities are produced through the interaction of human and non-human animals in the context of animal abuse in Mexico. I argue that punitivist subjectivities are generated and reinforced through the legal and social defense of abused animals. Taking as a starting point the idea of punitivist populism, I look at how ideas of interspecies justice are generated as a result of the fantasy of punitivism.
