Dans le cadre des midis de l’éthique du CRÉ, Willem van der Deijl offrira une présentation intitulée « Should Mark promote my wellbeing? »
Social scientists are increasingly interested in the concept of wellbeing, and are increasingly studying what makes our lives go well. Sometimes, they are explicitly motivated to do so by the aim of improving policy, and very often they provide policy recommendation on the basis of their findings. However, the legitimacy of the governmental goal to improve the wellbeing of its citizen lacks justification. To what extent, and under which conditions, can the government use this new knowledge to promote my wellbeing? In this talk I survey some possible, and one actual answer to this question. While I do not defend an account of my own, I suggest that a satisfactory answer to this question is of yet forthcoming.
