“Les mots qui tissent des ponts”
A member of the CRÉ anonymously publishes a new article entitled “Les mots qui tissent des ponts” in La Presse, in response to the directive issued by the Minister of the French Language prohibiting the use of inclusive language (and more specifically the words “iels” and “toustes”) in ministerial communications, a directive the Minister planned to extend to school boards.
As the author recounts, by implementing this directive, the Ministry refuses to recognize the conceptual innovations produced by non-binary, gender-fluid, 2S, transitioning, or trans people to name themselves, forcing them to fit into categories that do them violence through language.
