Joseph Heath is author of The Machinery of Government: Public Administration and the Liberal State, published by Oxford University Press 2020. It's one of five books nominated for this year’s Donner Prize for the best public policy book of the year.

Jarislowsky Lecture Series on Human Nature and Technology

Lecture and workshop by Joseph Heath (Director of the Centre for Ethics, Professor in the Department of Philosophy and the School of Public Policy and Governance at the University of Toronto)

On Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 3 p.m., Joseph Heath will give a lecture entitled “The Enforcement Threshold Approach to Harm-Reduction”, in room 16 of the Old Chancellor Day Hall, located at 3644 Peel Street, in Montreal. The lecture will be followed by a workshop devoted to conversations on public philosophy, scheduled for Friday, January 23, 2026, at 1 p.m., at McGill University’s Department of Philosophy, room 927, Leacock Building, located at 855 Sherbrooke Street West, Montreal.
