You are cordially invited to the launch of the comic book “HÉRITAGE” by Sophie Hamisultane and Sandra Desmazières, a pilot project supported by the Centre de recherche interdisciplinaire sur la justice intersectionnelle, la décolonisation et l’équité (CRI-JaDE) in 2023. The event will take place on March 27, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Euguélionne bookstore, located at 1426 Beaudry Street, in Montreal, Quebec. Please note that the event will take place in French.

Title of the project: Comprendre les oppressions et les violences envers les femmes vietnamiennes migrantes et descendantes de migrantes.

The screenplay is based on stories drawn from the research of Sophie Hamisultane (co-director of CRI-JaDE), illustrated by Sandra Desmazières (winner of the 2026 César Award for Best Animated Short Film).

“Héritages” explores how “Asian” women are portrayed in colonial imaginaries. This event will showcase the comic book and provide an opportunity to discuss the experiences of younger generations of “Asian” women whose parents are immigrants.

Mai est étudiante. Elle va à la piscine tous les jeudis. Un jeune homme l’aborde. Mais ce jour-là cette phrase qu’elle a si souvent entendue, la perturbe: « T’es mignonne…j’adore les petites asiatiques ». Tout au long de la journée, Mai repense à tout ce que sa mère et sa grand-mère ont vécu depuis qu’elles ont quitté le Vietnam en 1980. Elle se questionne sur la vision des femmes asiatiques et d’où vient cet imaginaire.
