“Droits des femmes : où en sommes-nous en 2026 ?”

To mark International Women’s Day 2026, Pascale Devette, professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Montreal and director of the graduate program specializing in feminist, gender, and sexuality studies, has published a new article that provides an overview of current issues related to the status of women.

Devette addresses the following question: What is the reality for women today, especially given that the media is reporting a resurgence of misogyny, homophobia, and transphobia in Quebec’s elementary and secondary schools, and that machismo and the sense of insecurity felt by women and LGBTQ+ individuals are on the rise? According to her, a troubling climate of intolerance prevails.
