Biography
Pascal-Olivier Dumas-Dubreuil holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in philosophy from the Université de Montréal, where he is currently pursuing a doctorate in philosophy. His research, co-directed by professors Aude Bandini (UdeM) and Bruno Ambroise (CNRS), focuses on institutions that codify, regulate, and frame the use of speech in a political context. He is particularly interested in the ritual of oaths (e.g., oaths of allegiance) as an example of what is referred to as the performativity of language. Starting from this practice, which mobilizes speech in its fundamentally collective and sacred nature, he seeks to identify the conditions of political expression. His research is funded in particular by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (2025-2028). Since 2023, he has been teaching philosophy at Cégep du Vieux Montréal.
