Biography
Nicolas Pinsonneault is a Ph.D. candidate in Applied Economics at HEC Montréal. He is completing his dissertation under the supervision of Justin Caron, Justin Leroux (HEC), and Étienne Billette de Villemeur (Université de Lille). His research lies at the intersection of environmental economics, political economy, and contract theory.
His dissertation focuses primarily on the impact of political uncertainty on climate policies, with particular attention to the design and effectiveness of public commitment instruments aimed at supporting green investment. In particular, he studies the role of Carbon Contracts for Difference as credibility-enhancing mechanisms that help stabilize expectations in the context of the energy transition.
Alongside his research activities, Nicolas is a lecturer at Polytechnique Montréal, where he teaches the course Economic Issues in Sustainable Development for Engineering.
In addition, he regularly collaborates with public and para-public organizations as well as private-sector stakeholders, notably on issues related to the financing of public water services and sustainable real estate.
