OQDA Animal Research Workshop – “From Things to Sentient Beings”

Call for proposals

You are cordially invited to submit a proposal for the upcoming Animal Research Workshop, held as part of the symposium De choses à êtres sentients : 10 ans après la réforme du droit animalier, co-organised by the Observatoire québécois de droit animalier (OQDA), the Social Justice Centre (SJC) and the Centre for Research in Ethics (CRÉ), on May 15 and 16, 2026. Presentations will focus on current research projects related to animals, whether in law, philosophy, history, sociology, anthropology, political science, cultural studies, literature, or other related disciplines.

This intensive workshop is designed as a special opportunity for researchers to engage in in-depth discussions with other researchers about ongoing research or publication projects in a more intimate setting than the main conference, while fostering lasting connections within the animal research community. It allows participants to discuss their research projects in small groups and receive constructive critical feedback, in preparation for communications, publications, or job talk presentations. The goal is to help researchers refine, enrich, and deepen their ideas.

How to submit a proposal:
Those interested in presenting their work in progress at the May 15 workshop, between 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at Concordia, are invited to submit an up-to-date resume (maximum 2 to 3 pages) and a summary of their research project (maximum 700 words) to info@oqda.org. Graduate students and established researchers are encouraged to participate.

Participants whose proposals are accepted must submit the text to be studied during the Workshop by April 17, 2026. The text must not exceed 15 pages (8,000 words). It may be written in French or English (however, the Workshop will be conducted in French).

Selected participants may be eligible for financial assistance to help cover travel expenses, depending on the distance traveled.

The official deadline for submitting proposals was December 15, 2025, but as an exception, proposals submitted before December 19 will be considered.
