Doctoral and Master’s Scholarships

The Aesop Chair held by Denise Celentano (2024-2028) offers PhD and MA scholarships, of 20,000$ and 5,000$ respectively, for students whose research focuses on topics within the philosophy of work or other topics in political, social, economic philosophy or ethics of AI. Students will work under the supervision of the Chair holder. Subject to conditions, the scholarships are renewable.

Eligibility Conditions:

Doctoral Scholarship

• Be enrolled full-time in the PhD Philosophy program at the Université de Montréal in the Winter semester of the academic year 2025-2026 or Fall 2026 (application for admission can be made after the results are announced, but payment of the bursary is conditional upon the enrolment in the program);
• Hold a MA degree in philosophy or equivalent;
• Demonstrate a sufficient knowledge of French.

Master’s Scholarship

• Be enrolled in a MA program in philosophy at Université de Montréal in 2026-2027;
• Hold a bachelor’s degree in philosophy or equivalent.

Doctoral Scholarship

• A cover letter (max. 300 words);
• A curriculum vitae;
• All university transcripts;
• Doctoral research project (max. 800 words, plus references);
• Two letters of recommendation.

Master’s scholarship

• A cover letter (max. 200 words);
• Curriculum vitae;
• All university transcripts;
• Master’s research project (max 300 words, plus the references);
• One letter of recommendation.

Applications will be judged based on academic excellence and the quality and originality of the research project.

Deadline for applications for the 2025-2026 winter session (doctoral): October 15, 2025. Deadline for applications for the 2026 fall session (doctoral and master’s): January 13, 2026.
