Biography
Vojtěch Svěrák is a PhD researcher in a double-degree programme at the University of Groningen (Campus Fryslân) and Charles University in Prague, where he works on structural injustice and responsibility for climate change. During his PhD, he has held visiting positions at the University of Hamburg, the University of Edinburgh and the University of Oxford. He holds an MA and a BA in philosophy from Charles University. Beyond academia, he has worked as a journalist specializing in environmental and climate change topics, and as a public relations specialist at a research centre.
Svěrák’s research lies at the intersection of political theory, moral philosophy and climate ethics. His PhD project explores what it means to view climate change as a case of structural injustice, and what normative implications this has for questions of responsibility, especially the responsibility of states and citizens. More broadly, he is interested in topics of blame, political responsibility, social privilege, equality, climate justice, activism and structural transformation.
