Book Launch of “Maîtres chez eux” (PUM, 2026)

On April 22, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the Institut de l’énergie Trottier invites you to an IET Conversation to mark the launch of the book Maîtres chez eux. Churchill Falls, la fondation d’Hydro-Québec au Labrador (Presses de l’Université de Montréal, 2026), by Martine Verdy, Camila Patino Sanchez and Kathryn Furlong (University of Montreal). The event will take place at the Lassonde Pavilion of Polytechnique Montréal, located at 2700 chemin de la Tour, in Montréal, Québec.

This book explores the little-known history of the Churchill Falls hydroelectric dam and its role in shaping Quebec’s identity and nationalism. By bringing the territory of Labrador and its people—often overlooked in collective narratives—back into the spotlight, it analyzes how this colossal project shaped relations between Quebec and Newfoundland.

The authors will be on hand to discuss the book with Louis Beaumier, Executive Director of the IET. They will also respond to pre-recorded comments from an expert from Newfoundland and Labrador.
