Biography

Yawovi Agbonkou, a Togolese national, is a PhD candidate in political philosophy and ethics at Sorbonne University, under the supervision of Pierre-Henri Tavoillot. His research focuses on the conditions that make a more just world possible, with a particular interest in the role of sociopolitical institutions in promoting economic redistribution and social recognition, as well as in civic engagement as a driver of social transformation.

His work revisits and expands upon the reflections of Martha Nussbaum, especially her central question — How can we create the conditions for a more just world? — in the context of the third industrial revolution and the ecological crisis. This research builds on his Master’s thesis, entitled “Is development aid an obstacle to the emergence of poor countries?”, completed at Sorbonne University.

He is also the author of several works, including an article and a report on inequalities in Togo, produced following a research mission funded by Sorbonne University. He regularly shares his work in academic settings such as conferences, seminars, and study days.

Yawovi will be conducting a research stay at the CRÉ from September 13 to October 16, 2025, under the supervision of Pablo Gilabert (Concordia).
