Biography
Alexandre Petitclerc (B.A., McGill; M.A., UMontréal) is currently a Ph.D. candidate in philosophy at the University of Montreal. His dissertation, supervised by Christian Nadeau (UdeM) and Julie Saada (Sciences Po Paris), focuses on the role of social rights in contemporary liberal democracies. His research interests lie at the intersection of political philosophy and law, and currently focus on social rights, housing, and inheritance. His interdisciplinary approach combines scientific research, event organization, community engagement, and the production of documentary content.
He is the scientific director and one of the founders (along with Nicolas Monet and Emmanuel Rioux) of “Ce qu’on lègue,” a project on the socioeconomic issues surrounding inheritance and probate law, produced by the organization Jurivision (University of Ottawa). His first film, “Juste un toit” (directed by Emmanuel Rioux), gained international recognition. He also served as president of the Ligue des droits et libertés from 2024 to 2026.
His work has been supported and recognized by a variety of organizations. Notably, he was named a fellow of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation (2022), a Louis-Gagnon Horizon Fellow at the University of Montreal (2022–2023), and the winner in the “Graduate and Postgraduate Student” category of the Forces AVENIR awards (2025). He has also received support from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) and the Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ). He was also a visiting doctoral fellow at Warwick Law School in 2026.
