Georges-A. Legault Prize in Organizational Ethics, IDÉA

Call for Applications

Georges-A. Legault Prize in Organizational Ethics

2023 EDITION: ACADEMIC SECTION

The Institute of Applied Ethics (IDÉA) at Université Laval awarded for the first time the Georges-A. Legault Prize during the international colloquium “Ethical Interventions in Organizations,” in June 2013. The prize was established to honor the significant work of Professor Georges-Auguste Legault in organizational ethics.

Aiming to highlight significant contributions in the field of organizational ethics, it alternately rewards, on the one hand, research by graduate students and contributions by faculty researchers (academic section), and on the other hand, achievements by practitioners from various professional backgrounds in organizational ethics (professional section).

For the completion of the contributions for the year 2023, applications are open in the academic section.

Two awards will be given: one for students (1) and one for faculty researchers (2).

1) Student Category

The candidate must present their contribution to the advancement of ethics, either as a poster or a reasoned text. This contribution can be theoretical or practical.

  • Theoretical: the student must demonstrate how their research contributes to the advancement of ethics in the fields of the institutionalization of ethics, organizational and applied ethics, ethics of intervention, or ethically-oriented intervention.
  • Practical: the student must demonstrate how their work contributes to the popularization of ethics and the transfer of knowledge in the fields of the institutionalization of ethics, organizational and applied ethics, ethics of intervention, or ethically-oriented intervention.

The dimensions of the poster are 3 x 4 feet (91.44 x 121.92 cm) in landscape (horizontal) format. The usual standards for the presentation of scientific posters apply.

The text must be written in Times New Roman, 12, 1.5 line spacing, and must not exceed 3 pages.

To be eligible, the candidate must be enrolled full-time or part-time in a 2nd or 3rd cycle program at a Quebec university.

2) Faculty Researcher Category

An application can be submitted by the candidate or by one or more other individuals.

The application must include, in a text, an extra-university activity that does not a priori fall within the regular framework of their courses or research. It must reflect a commitment that goes beyond what is normally expected of a faculty researcher.

The activity must have concrete repercussions outside of the academic world and contribute to the advancement of ethics and the transfer of knowledge for the benefit of the community. Such an activity could be, for example, organizing a science café, a public deliberation on an ethical issue, a large public event related to ethics, publishing a popular science text on ethics, or developing an educational tool for the general public.

Award Presentation and Recipient’s Commitment

This recognition comes with the presentation of an honorary plaque during the cocktail reception of the 12th edition of the summer school in organizational ethics.

Furthermore, each category’s winner commits to participate in visibility activities of IDÉA related to their award (lunchtime lecture, social media post, short video clip, podcast participation, etc.). This participation will be determined in agreement with the recipient, the management team of IDÉA, and the Scientific Direction and Steering Committee (CDOS).

Selection

Applications will be evaluated by a jury composed of IDÉA members, including at least one member of the CDOS.
