“The ethics of cloning – and owning – dogs”
Will Gildea (McGill), postdoctoral researcher at the CRÉ, publishes a new letter in The Guardian on animal cloning.
Gildea argues that the growing pet‑cloning industry which makes it possible to “replace” one’s pet, though it may seem to be a sign of sincere love for animals, may instead be an indication that we are misvaluing them. Trying to have one’s dog “reborn” takes them to be a replaceable object and not an individual with an irreplaceable perspective.
