“Les approches féministes dans l’étude des crises humanitaires”

Monday May 20th, 2024, Ryoa Chung, co-director of the CRÉ and professor of philosophy at the University of Montreal, will give the inaugural conference [in French] of the 21st edition of the Université féministe d’été (Feminist Summer University), which will focus on the theme “Urgency to act: feminist voices in the face of current crises’. This 2024 edition of the UFÉ, which will be held from May 20 to 24, 2024, proposes to reflect on the different feminist possibilities for dealing with current crises as well as the voices that shape them, while focusing our reflections on the urgency of setting things in action.

Registrations for the non-credited formula of the UFÉ have been open since February 5, 2024. Those for the credited formula will open on March 27, 2024.

As part of this presentation, it will be necessary to present certain feminist analyzes of humanitarian crises caused by natural disasters or violent conflicts. Building on the work of E. Enarson and PG Dhar Chakrabati on “gender and disaster”, Naomi Zack on the ethics of disaster and the philosophy of race, as well as more recent work on health and safety global issues from a feminist point of view, we will attempt to identify the concerns, postures and purposes characteristic of feminist approaches.
