Postdoctoral Fellowships CRC-IAE/CRÉ 2023-2024

CRC-IAE/CRÉ Postdoctoral Fellowship Competition 2023-24

The Canada Research Chair on Epistemic Injustice and Agency at UQAM is pleased to launch, in collaboration with the Centre for Research in Ethics (CRÉ), a postdoctoral fellowship competition!

The postdoctoral stay for the academic year 2023-2024 (12 months) comes with a postdoctoral salary of $45,000 per year, possibly renewable for 12 months contingent on evaluation and budget availability. To receive this funding, the selected candidate will have to register as a postdoctoral fellow at UQAM (there is no registration fee).

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Hold a PhD in philosophy or in a related discipline in the humanities or social sciences. Applicants must have completed their PhD after September 1, 2020, and prior to the start date of the postdoctoral stay;
  2. Pursue a postdoctoral research project that falls within the Chair’s research themes, namely epistemic injustice and agency (or related issues) in relation to colonialism, racism, migration, cultural diversity, neurodiversity, disability, linguistic justice, or academia (or other contexts).
  3. Commit to applying as a postdoctoral fellow under the supervision of Professor Amandine Catala. The selected candidate will ideally be able to work under a cosupervision with one of the other members of the CRÉ. The co-supervision will be determined based on the fit between the proposed research project and the expertise of the CRÉ members.

The Chair and the CRÉ will jointly offer the selected candidate:

  1. A salary of $45,000 per year;
  2. An individual workstation (in accordance with current health restrictions);
  3. Access to UQAM infrastructures (e.g., library, computer software, databases, computer resources, shared office);
  4. Assistance with the material organization of the stay.

In return, candidates must:

  1. Conduct a research project consistent with the one submitted in the application;
  2. Participate in activities organized by the Chair and the CRÉ (reading group, Epistemic Justice Webinar, presentation of work in progress, fellows seminar, conferences, etc.);
  3. Make at least one presentation of their work in progress as part of the activities of the Chair and the CRÉ;
  4. Keep their profile up to date on the Chair’s and the CRÉ’s websites, and inform coordinators of all research activities that should be publicized;
  5. Submit an activity report at the end of each fiscal year during the stay.

 Applications will be evaluated based on:

  1. The nature and quality of the research project;
  2. The relevance of pursuing the research project at the Chair and the CRÉ;
  3. The quality of previous research.

NB: Applications from the following groups are strongly encouraged: physically or psychologically disabled people, neurodivergent people, Indigenous people, racialized people, and LGBTQ2+ people.

 Application materials:

  1. A CV;
  2. An academic paper (published or in progress) written in the last three years;
  3. A research project proposal (max. 1500 words excluding bibliography);
  4. The completed application form;
  5. Two reference letters.

Application Submission: With the exception of the reference letters, candidates must send their entire application in a single PDF file to the Associate Director of the Centre for Research in Ethics, Valéry Giroux, by March 17, 2023 (11:59 pm Montreal time/EST), at the following email address: valery.giroux@umontreal.ca. Referees must send their letter of recommendation to the same email address by the deadline. Applications may be submitted in either French or English.
