Biography

George conducted his doctoral research at the University of Edinburgh, as part of the ERC funded XSPECT project led by Prof. Andy Clark. His focus was on understanding the nature of consciousness and the self within predictive processing and active inference approaches to the brain. In particular, he focused on altered experiences of selfhood occasioned by psychedelic drugs, meditative practices, and psychopathologies. He is now a postdoc on the Digital Minds project led by Jonathan Simon, assistant professor in the Department of Philosophy at the Université de Montréal, looking at the possibility of conscious experiences occurring in artificial agents.
