The Economic Philosophy Reading Group is pleased to invite you to its first meeting of the season on Thursday, September 10, at 11:45 a.m. (Montreal time).

This meeting will take place in Room 2880 (space z), 2nd floor at HEC Montréal, 3000 Côte Ste-Catherine (in the Alphonse-et-Dorimène-Desjardins International Institute of Cooperatives building, at the end of the corridor next to the library).

For this session, we will be discussing Stefano Merlo’s text entitled: Macroeconomic Sovereignty in the European Economic and Monetary Union: A Republican Approach.

    We are pleased to invite you on Thursday, September 24 at 11:45 a.m. (Montreal time) to the Economic Philosophy Reading Group. It will take place in room 2.880 (Z space), 2nd floor at HEC, 3000 Côte Ste-Catherine (in the facilities of the Alphonse‑and‑Dorimène‑Desjardins International Institute for Cooperatives, at the end of the hallway next to the library).

    For this session, we will be discussing Morgane Delorme’s text entitled “Non-Domination Without Compensation: Public Debt and the Hamiltonian Politics of Interdependence”.

    Morgane will present her paper. She would especially like to receive feedback on the following points:

    • Clarifying the nature and scope of the contribution (notably, the status of the Hamiltonian case relative to the paper’s broader normative claim about public debt);
    • Determining whether the republican argument is sufficiently developed, well-supported, and challenged;
    • Flagging the unnecessary passages (the paper is slightly too long);
    • Flagging unnatural turns of phrase and wordings.
