Care Ethics and Precarity

Care Ethics Research Consortium (CERC)
Conference 2018

Portland, USA

Theme: Care Ethics and Precarity

Keynote speakers: Eva Feder Kittay & Fiona Robinson

Scholars from all disciplines are invited to submit a 500 word abstract for a 20 minute presentation (firm time limit) on the theme of care ethics and precarity. Precarity is a rich and widely contested term that can describe a variety of oppressive circumstances. We are seeking presentations that explore how an ethic of care confronts precarity, broadly construed. All scholarly approaches are welcome including those that address or employ theory, empirical data, applications, policy, aesthetics, etc.

Abstract submission

Please send your 500 word abstract for peer review to: abstracts@care-ethics.org by March 1, 2018.  In the subject line, please type ‘CERC proposal’ and your last name.  In your email, please include a brief biographical note (250 words max) with main research interests and institutional affiliation (if applicable).

Attach a Word document to the e-mail that is anonymous and ready for peer review.  The document should contain:

  • the title of the presentation,
  • the abstract,
  • presentation equipment requirements (if applicable), and
  • a brief note about whether the proposal is for a standard conference presentation or for an alternative presentation style (if the latter, please specify with a brief 100 words description).

Please note that regardless of the type of contribution to be offered, the organizing committee encourages presentations that are not read. Criteria for selection include: effective and explicit engagement with the conference theme, contribution to the diversity of presentations, and potential significance for advancement of the field of care ethics. All conference presenters will need to register for the event prior to presentation.
